Dog Park Etiquette Guide

Dog parks are a great way to let your pup get some exercise and enjoy playtime with other dogs. It's also a great place to meet other pet parents like you and even make some real friendships, as well as gain new puppy playmates. Some pet parents even take proximity to dog parks into consideration when relocating or travel long distances to get to their favorite parks.

With all the great benefits dog parks can provide, it's very important to always be mindful and courteous while using these shared community spaces. Check out the dog park etiquette guide below to keep your neighborhood dog park safe and fun for all pet parents and pups alike.

Pick Up After Your Dog

The number one rule when it comes to puppy playtime - always scoop the poop. Not only is leaving pet waste behind unsightly and potentially very messy, it's also incredibly harmful to the environment and even your health (as well as your pup's). Keep an eye out for designated DOGIPOT® pet stations and dog waste removal solutions, where you can easily, safely and hygienically dispose of any presents your pup might leave behind.

Take Sick Days

If your pet is feeling under the weather or is not up to date on his or her vaccinations, it's best to stay home and away from public dog parks until they're 100% healthy. From water bowls to sharing toys, it's very easy for bacteria to spread around a dog park. Be considerate of other pet parents and their dogs and keep playtime in your own home until your pup is all better.

Keep an Eye on Fido

A doggie playground is the perfect place to let your pup run free. Off-leash playtime is a real treat for your dog, but that doesn't mean you're off the hook. Avoid the temptation to take phone calls, check emails or play games on your mobile devices - always keep your focus on your dog. While it's great for your pet to socialize and play with other dogs, anything can happen and being alert and ready to take action can make a world all of the difference.

Read the Rules

Besides universal dog park etiquette tips, it's important to pay mind to the specific regulations in place at your local park. Take a moment to read all of the rules posted before entering the dog park, as they might state weight limits or identify certain areas for specific breeds.

Have Fun

Don't forget - a visit to the dog park is a treat! By keeping good dog park etiquette in mind, your trip to the park can be fun and exciting for both you and your furriest friend.
