If we’re honest, no one in their right mind would want to pick up dog poop. Dog poop fresh out of a dog can be stinky, gushy, and warm. Yuck. However, it is really important that you pick up after your dog each time it goes to the bathroom, especially if it isn’t using the bathroom in your yard. Second, dog poop can be full of diseases and parasites. Dog waste can contain e-coli bacteria, parvo, giardiasis, campylobacter, and salmonella. Dog waste may also have parasites such as ringworm and tapeworm. These parasites and diseases can be harmful to humans, especially pregnant women and children.

 

Third, when you pick up your dog’s poop on a walk, you are acting as a responsible neighbor. No one wants to pick up their own dog’s poop, but they really don’t want to pick up someone else’s. When you pick up after your dog, you are showing courtesy and friendship to your neighbors. This goodwill might come in handy if a tree falls in your yard and you need help chopping it up, or if you have a piece of furniture that needs to be moved. You want to take care of your neighbors the way they take care of you.

 

Finally, many people think that dog waste actually helps other people’s yards and gardens, but that’s not true. In many cases, dog poop has the opposite effect. That’s because dogs eat a lot of protein. Excess protein causes excess nitrogen and potassium. These two nutrients can burn a hole in your lawn or flower garden. Removing dog waste is an excellent way to keep your yard and garden healthy.
